Councillor Ben Miskell has made a plea for the community to speak up and report offenders to the police, after a weekend of anti-social behaviour in Arbourthorne.

Two separates buses were attacked on Saturday, both suffering windows smashed windows after bricks were thrown by ‘a large group of yobs’ that had gathered. There are no reports of injuries in either incidents, but concern is growing about the potential threat to life, should the attacks continue.

The recent disturbances come after a series of similar incidence before Christmas, which led to the withdrawal of bus services in the estate for many weeks. Normal bus services only recommenced in the area after a series of undercover decoy bus operations were launched by South Yorkshire Police and First South Yorkshire and supported by councillors.

Councillor Ben Miskell said: ‘People in Arbourthorne are sick of this mindless behaviour. We can’t have large groups of yobs attacking buses and intimidating people. We need the community to speak up and report those responsible to the police.’

He went on to say: ‘I know that footage exists of these individuals and it’s out there in the community. If you have CCTV on your house that may have caught any of these incidents, or know who is responsible for this criminality, please pass it on to the police’.

In a post on social media, South Yorkshire Police said:

‘We are aware of reports circulating on social media relating to a group of youths causing damage and committing ASB in the Manor Top area’.

‘These incidents happened in the evening on Saturday 23rd January 2021.  If anyone has any names of those involved, please can they email Sgt Hollands from the Manor & Arbourthorne neighbourhood team’.

The post from local Sergeant Thomas Holland went on to say:

‘My team would really like to chat to these individuals and show them the error of their ways.’
